Some of you had noticed that I have been taking some photos with a 50mm lately, maybe a little more than the 18-35. Well I took it upon myself to upgrade my Nikkor 50 1.8D to the Nikkor 50 1.4G. The biggest difference that most people will see is that this newer one is a stop faster with light. It allows a razor thin depth of field and on FX is like a dream. Things are ridiculously creamy and very isolated.
Now I don't want to get really deep into this on this post, because I was going to go into a review for Sunday on my thoughts on it. So guess you'll have to hang in there just one more day!
I'm loving the blog. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteJust curious why you choose the G model over the D model?
I'm excited for the review as I'm thinking of upgrading my 1.8.
Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteI chose the G over the D for the weather sealing as a big part of it... plus there is no moving parts on the G (Externally). The D will still have that moving focus ring and even though I teach myself not to put my hands on it I do it at the worst of times.
I also (personal opinion) feel the bokeh on the G is a little smoother to my eyes. Less onion ringing like some D lenses will give you.
